Your mission: send residents running and gather the candy

Someone is walking past the houses. A pumpkin sits beside the path, just far enough away to make you consider a different approach. As a free-floating ghost, you can move around easily, but your scare reaches only nearby targets. Your first decision is often where to haunt, rather than when to shout.

Each level asks you to scare a set number of residents and collect enough candy. The counters show both objectives. Successfully frightened residents leave additional sweets to pick up. Finishing only one task will not complete the level, so remember to collect what you have earned instead of rushing straight to the next target.

The timer measures your performance. It does not end the round when a deadline passes. You can take time to understand a troublesome situation before trying for a faster finish.

Possess a pumpkin and line up a scare chain

Two residents are approaching a pumpkin, with a third following behind. Jump into it, roll closer and wait until they are all within range. One well-timed Boo! can catch the whole group. Hitting several residents with the same action creates a scare chain.

The choice of object changes your options. Pumpkins remain mobile while possessed. Gravestones and ghost lanterns give you more range, but cannot move while you occupy them. A stationary object beside a busy route may be more useful than chasing people across the scene. Watch their movements before committing to a position.

Every scare has a short cooldown. In later worlds, some residents also need two scares before they run away. Plan a second opportunity rather than assuming the first hit has finished the job. More range helps, but timing still matters.

Stay out of flashlight beams and break salt barriers

Ghost hunters carry flashlights through the neighborhood. When a free ghost stays in a beam, its detection level rises. Move away or hide inside a nearby object before you are caught. Possession normally conceals you from the hunters, giving you a moment to reconsider your route.

You can also scare a hunter. A successful hit stops them for four seconds, opening a temporary gap. Reaching them safely is the difficult part: sometimes the sensible choice is simply to go around.

White salt lines and protective circles block a free ghost. Rolling over them inside a pumpkin breaks the barrier for the rest of that attempt. Look for a usable pumpkin or an open route around the obstacle. When salt and a flashlight cover the same area, choosing your approach carefully saves a lot of backtracking.

Switch off protective lights and distract the cats

The golden area around a protective lantern prevents you from scaring. Residents inside it are protected too. Find the connected switch and use F or the “Trick” button to turn the light off. You can also wait for residents to leave the protected area as they follow their route.

Cats are harder to fool than hunters. They can detect you even inside a possessed object and raise an alarm that exposes your hiding place. Activate the nearby ball of yarn to distract them for eight seconds. Use the opening to change position or approach a switch. The distraction is temporary, so decide what to do before activating it.

A ghost lantern you can possess and a protective lantern are different objects. The former extends your scare; the latter blocks it. Their roles are worth learning early.

Turn mirrors, rival ghosts and brooms to your advantage

A cursed mirror pulls a nearby free ghost toward it and transports you to its partner. You receive brief protection after the trip. Possessed objects are not drawn into mirrors, so leaving your current body can deliberately open a shortcut. Think about where you will emerge before moving closer.

A purple rival ghost may occupy an object you want. Scare it away from nearby to free that object temporarily. Meanwhile, enchanted brooms push candy and pumpkins around, including occupied pumpkins. A scare stops a broom briefly, giving you a little more control over the situation.

Church bells introduce another timing problem. A countdown warns you before the strike. Leave your possessed object in advance, or the bell will knock you out and briefly stun you. These obstacles can disrupt a plan, but they also reward noticing what is about to happen.

Earn stars, decorate your home and hear the night change

New obstacle types appear as the campaign progresses, followed by combinations of familiar hazards. You can earn up to three stars per level. Replaying a stage lets you try a cleaner route, a quicker finish or a better scare chain.

Spend earned candy on haunted-home decorations, including pumpkins, ghost lights and a black cat. The daily midnight challenge offers another task alongside the campaign. Its extra daily reward requires a three-person scare chain and can be earned once per day.

Each world has its own musical style. The first neighborhood uses spooky funk, while the haunted villa favors a ghostly waltz. Arrangements change instruments and sections, with extra layers during danger and short musical accents for scare chains. Quiet passages leave room for wind, creaking wood and distant bells.

Controls on a computer or phone

On a computer, move with WASD or the arrow keys. Press E to possess or leave an object, Space to scare and F to activate a nearby switch or yarn ball. You can also click a destination in the scene.

On a phone, tap where you want to move. Use Possess to enter an object, Trick to interact and BOOO! to scare. You can also tap a nearby object directly. This Halloween game runs in your browser, without an extra app.

Frequently asked questions

Choose a question: Free play · Three stars · Scare not working · Getting caught · Ghost School · Saved progress · Sound

Is HALLOWEEN: BOO! free to play?

Yes. You can play this Halloween browser game for free. Haunted-home decorations cost candy earned through play, rather than real money. Choosing a decoration does not require a cash purchase.

How do I earn all three stars?

Complete the level for one star. Finish in under 100 seconds for another. The third requires hitting at least two residents with the same scare. You can meet both extra conditions in one attempt.

Why is my scare not working?

Your ability may still be cooling down. Protective light or temporary stun can also prevent a scare. A resident outside your range will not be hit, so check your position as well as whether the ability is ready.

Does getting caught restart the level?

No. You are briefly stunned and may lose your possession. Afterward, the round continues. A hunter catching you does not automatically erase everything you have already achieved in that level.

Can I practice the obstacles separately?

Yes. Ghost School, provides exercises for all eight obstacle types. These lessons do not change campaign unlocks or your candy balance. They are useful before tackling an unfamiliar hazard.

Where is my progress saved?

Unlocked levels, stars, candy and decorations are saved locally in the browser you use. They do not automatically transfer to another device. Clearing browser data, or ending a private browsing session, can remove the stored progress.

Can I play without sound?

Yes. The music-note button switches music and effects off. Objectives, warnings and action hints remain visible. Sound adds atmosphere, but it is not essential for understanding the tasks or following the main danger cues.
